Hair Transplant
Hair transplant is a surgical procedure designed to restore hair to areas of the scalp that are bald or thinning. This procedure involves removing hair follicles from a donor site, typically the back or sides of the head, and transplanting them to the bald or thinning areas. Hair transplants are a popular and effective solution for both men and women experiencing hair loss due to genetics, aging, or other factors.
Types of Hair Transplant Procedures:
- Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): Also known as strip harvesting, this method involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area, dissecting it into individual follicular units, and transplanting them to the recipient area. It typically results in a linear scar at the donor site.
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): This technique involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area using a small punch tool and transplanting them to the recipient area. FUE leaves tiny, dot-like scars that are less noticeable than the linear scar from FUT.
Procedure:
- Consultation and Planning: The surgeon assesses your hair loss pattern, discusses your goals, and designs a customized treatment plan.
- Preparation: The donor and recipient areas are prepared, and local anesthesia is administered to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
- Extraction: Hair follicles are harvested from the donor area using either FUT or FUE techniques.
- Transplantation: The harvested follicles are carefully transplanted into tiny incisions made in the recipient area to achieve natural-looking hair growth.
- Postoperative Care: After the procedure, the patient receives instructions on how to care for the transplanted area, including medications to reduce swelling and prevent infection. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor progress.
